The Oneness Founder Talks, Sustainable Packaging and Environmentally, Friendly Living

Nowadays it is very common for beauty companies to claim that sustainability is one of their top priorities. To the untrained eye it can be misleading and at times difficult to detect sustainable packaging due to the lack of transparency. Below, our founder Isida therefore goes into detail to provide more insight about the importance of sustainability, not only in relation to Oneness but also her personal life.

ET: Do you have any tips on how consumers can ensure that the packaging of their favorite product is sustainable?

IT: First of all, I would check if the packaging was sourced from FSC managed forests. Most companies will provide this information on their website, but you can also look for the FSC label on the packaging itself. This label is the most reliable symbol for sustainable forestry. To avoid deforestation FSC-labelled products stem from responsibly harvested trees which is crucial when it comes to fighting climate change. Another indicator of sustainability would be products made from glass and aluminum since those types of materials are generally more sustainable than others.

ET: What exactly makes the Oneness packaging sustainable?

IT: If you look closely at any of our secondary packaging, you will be able to spot the before mentioned FSC label. In addition to that, every single one of our products is also made from glass or aluminum. With the purpose of preventing even more unnecessary waste and energy consumption our products are handmade without any heavy machinery. Besides that, the design of our packaging is also very minimal. We make it a priority to source locally in Italy and France and only work with European manufactures that are certified for their environmentally friendly and energy efficient processes. The entirety of Oneness products is made from precious materials and can therefore be reused and refilled.

ET: Are there any plans to make the Oneness packaging even more sustainable in the future?

“WE LIKE TO THINK OF OUR PRODUCTS AS JEWELS, WHICH CAN BE PASSED DOWN FROM ONE GENERATION TO ANOTHER.”

IT: To encourage this even more, we are currently in the process of launching new refillable compact powders. This will be our next step to reduce waste consumption but definitely not our last. By introducing new refillable compacts and bottles we want to provide products made from luxurious materials that last.

ET: Do you think the cosmetic industry is moving in the right direction when it comes to sustainability?

IT: The majority of consumers probably think of sustainable packaging as boring and wouldn’t necessarily associate it with the word beautiful. At Oneness we have made it our goal to change that! I personally think we proved that packaging can be luxurious and beautiful without having to compromise sustainability. This is one of the reasons as to why we love pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the beauty industry!

“I BELIEVE THAT CONSUMERS DESERVE TO KNOW IF THE COMPANIES THEY SUPPORT ONLY PRETEND TO BE SUSTAINABLE TO IMPROVE THEIR IMAGE.”

ET: Do you have a certain responsibility as the founder of a skincare and beauty company to change the industry in a positive way?

IT: Definitely! I will always try to push the boundaries in order to find the best sustainable options for the production of our products. I am also committed to collaborating with charities and organizations that share our core values to offset our carbon footprint as much as possible.

ET: How important is sustainability in your own personal life?

IT: To encourage this even more, we are currently in the process of launching new refillable compact powders. This will be our next step to reduce waste consumption but definitely not our last. By introducing new refillable compacts and bottles we want to provide products made from luxurious materials that last.
